Late Night Comedy/Tragedy

How Will SNL Handle Whitney Houston’s Death? Man, I don’t know. Obviously, this sort of thing is very, very tricky. Given the fact that Saturday Night Live is pretty much a full-on comedy show, the writers are pretty much going to have to employ humor, no matter what they do–if they decide to address it at all.

It would be much easier for them to acknowledge Whitney Houston’s death if they’d stuck to the program’s original format, which made tons of room for serious moments and sentiment in between all the jokes.

“Probably A Canable”

These are text message I exchange with my 17 year old cousin, Bennett. He is a white boy that thinks he’s a Crip, works at Amoco, has a girlfriend named Mercedes, and is one of the most unintentionally funny and brilliant souls on the planet.”

It’s possible that everyone in the world has seen this already, but it’s funny so I don’t really care. However, I will say that this is one of those things that I truly, truly hope is fake, because holy shit, and et cetera. {Link via Fazed}

UPDATE: Yup, it’s apparently fake. {via Young Manhattanite}

Well, There’s Yer Problem!

“There is a way to arrive at common ground, provided we can maintain just basic respect for the integrity of the other side. But we’re never going to get to that so long as opinion leaders like [Jon] Stewart continue to take every cheap shot that comes their way. If progressives are the tolerant ones, by gum, then let them start toleratin’.” {From: Jon Stewart, Stop Hurting America! | The Awl}

Yes: Surely the inability of our nation’s lawmakers to find common ground is largely due to the propensity of liberal comedians to go for the obvious joke.
